New Post-Partum Room!
For my Girl Scout Gold Award, I had the opportunity to complete a project at Siena House. During my time volunteering at Siena House, I learned that the organization did not have a specific space for mothers returning from the hospital after a cesarean section.
The Siena House informed me that there was a storage room that was not being used to its full potential, and because of its ideal location and en suite bathroom, I chose to make this storage space into a recovery room for new mothers. My project focused on refurbishing the space so that it could meet the needs of new mothers. I worked on spackling, painting, and cleaning the room, and I brought in new furniture and decorations to make it feel safe, comfortable, and welcoming.
Now, the room provides mothers with a private and calming environment where they can rest and recover after surgery while caring for their newborns. It was important to me that the space reflect both comfort and accessibility so that mothers feel supported during such an important time in their lives.
